Body Measurement Correlation

Purpose 

• This activity shows students how to use linear regression on the graphing calculator to find the correlation of two sets of data and to predict using the regression line.

Materials

·Measuring tapes or information from Food Diary

·The Body Fat Celebrity chart 

Procedure

·Write your wrist circumference and height on the board with everyone being careful to write them in the same order.Measurements must all be in either centimeters or inches.

·Each student enters the group data in a graphing calculator.

·Each student will do a correlation and linear regression using the class data.Press for linear regression help.

·Each student will use the Celebrity Fat Chart on the worksheet correlate weight and body fat of all the stars. 

·The results found on the graphing calculator will be used to answer the questions on the Linear Regression Activity Sheet.

Conclusion

• Do theLinear Regression Activity Sheet in class using information gathered from the results found on the graphing calculator. 
• This sheet will be collected before the class is over.
• You will be graded on the answers on your Linear Regression Activity Sheet.
