WRHS Exponential Growth and Decay Stella Unit

In these units, students will gain a better understanding of exponential growth and decay. This topic is explored in Pre-Calculus, Algebra Principles, and Chemistry. In Pre-Calculus, students look at exponential growth with data from AIDS research. They will utilize Excel and STELLA in studying exponential and logistic growth. Algebra Principles students will investigate simple and compound interest. They will integrate mathematics and business to create a PowerPoint presentation about savings accounts that banks offer. In Chemistry, students will explore Radioactive Decay through experimentation, data analysis using Microsoft Excel, and STELLA modeling. The students will create presentations about nuclear technologies and related societal issues. Each unit provides teachers with lesson plans and activities for a two week unit. Through these units, the teachers hope to improve students computer modeling skills and use of technology to answer real-life problems. Students are required to build models that portray exponential grow and decay functions.
