Algebra Principles in the Business World

Simple and Compound Interest

Unit Overview

This portion of the WRHS NCSEC computational science unit investigates simple and compound interest through a variety of activities. Once the students understand the basic concepts and how to use the formulas, they will build STELLA models of the two types of interest. The STELLA models will give the students the ability to change parameters and look at different graphs. The culminating project will be a PowerPoint presentation that discusses savings options at two different banks. The students will choose one savings account from the banks and describe why that savings account is the best option for them.
