Vocabulary


Diameter- the length of a straight line through the center of a circle.   

Carbon- a simple chemical substance, which exists in its pure form as diamond or graphite, and is an important part of other substances such as coal and oil, as well as being contained in all plants and animals 

Sequester- to take temporary possession of

Density-thick; close together; difficult to go or see through 

Cellulose-the main substance in the cell walls of plants, also used in making paper, artificial fibers and plastics 

Polymer-a chemical substance consisting of large molecules made from many smaller and simpler molecules 

Lignin- a substance characterizing wood cells and differing from cellulose in its conduct with certain chemical reagents.

Cytoplasm- the substance inside a cell which surrounds the cell's nucleus

Algorithm- a set of mathematical instructions that must be followed in a fixed order, and that, esp. if given to a computer, will help to calculate an answer to a mathematical problem 

Octane- a number showing the quality of petrol in representing how well and with how much power it can make an engine work 

Hectare- a unit of measurement of an area of land (10 000 m2)
