characteristics of selected Superfund sites?
What problems are created with the release of toxic substances into
the environment? How effective
is the clean up conducted under the auspices of the EPA?
How is the scientific method used to evaluate the Superfund sites?
Objectives:
Describe the environmental impact of toxic waste on the water supply in
Harris County and the surrounding area.
Evaluate the effectiveness of the clean-up process on selected Superfund
sites
Relate the diffusion process in cells to the
diffusion of waste from chemical plants into ground water
Investigate how toxic chemicals in ground water affect living organisms.
Create an Excel model to evaluate data from an environmental chemical
contamination.

Hand-out to explain analysis of data
Rubric to evaluate EPA data.
Activities:
- Present
slide shows. Evaluate
using rubric.
- Powerpoint
presentation: Analyzing Data Using
Excel .
- Create
an Excel spreadsheet using EPA data.
Develop a formal lab report analyzing the spreadsheet results.
- Write
a letter to the Director of the Texas Natural Resource Conservation
Commission to share outcome of the data analysis. See Rubric.
