Day 2:  Exploring Transformations of Parent Functions Continued

Objective:

1. Create graphs that demonstrate the relationship between the graph of a function and its equation through the study of parent function transformations.

2.  Demonstrate the mastery of transformations through the recognition of graphs and equations.

3.  Demonstrate the mastery of special function identification.

Texas Standards (TEKS) and National Standards:

            c1B

Materials:

1. Computer Lab using TI Interactive software or Internet access to Function Flyer program; graphing calculators with graph links; or graphing calculators, graph paper, and colored pencils.

2.  Color printer, if using TI Interactive software.

3.  Projection device to display PowerPoint Presentation

Activity:

  1.   Students complete the Transformations Lesson begun on Day 1.

  2.   The students may use the notes from the PowerPoint presentation, Exploring Functions.

3.      If the students are using TI Interactive, they should print their assignments to turn in to their teacher.  This would include creating a transformation summary table on Word or another word processing program.

4.      If the students are using Function Flyer or graphing calculators, they will reproduce the graphs on graph paper differentiating the transformations using colored pencils or use a graph link which will allow them to print screen on a computer.  In addition to the graphs, they will also turn in the completed Transformation Lesson.
