  Welcome to the module, The Petrification Process of Wood.  We invite you to review the information and activities and extrapolate anything that would benefit your program.  The curriculum was designed for high school students by integrating a variety of methods and materials.  The design of the module incorporates comprehensive information appropriate for students in an environmental science program and evolves into area of chemistry and computational science.  Each lesson has instructions, goals and is designed to be accessed through the means of a computer. The module design introduces technological tools and we recommend that you review the listed web sites to familiarize yourself with the programs prior to instruction.

     There are numerous extensions to this module that explore dubious subject areas and exercise conjecture.  The ultimate goals of this module are to introduce a topic, technology, and resources that will assist in your teaching and your curricular development.  The students should experiment with a variety of models in both programs to acquire the necessary skills to develop an individual model of choice.  The idea is to ascertain the processes involved in scientific methodology and recognize the integration of various subject areas.  If you have comments, suggestions, or successful extensions that you would like to share with others; please feel free to go to the contact page.
