Glossary for Gas Laws!

Barometer:  instrument used to measure pressure

Boyle's Law:  pressure and volume are inversely related

CBL:  Calculator Based Laboratory, technology used with a graphing calculator to collect scientific data, pre-curser to LoggerPro available from Vernier Software and Technology

Charles' Law:  volume is directly related to Kelvin temperature

Chart:  for this module, graph in Excel

Combined Gas Law:  pressure and volume vary inversely with each other and directly with temperature in Kelvin

Direct Proportion:  when x varies in the same manner as y

Inverse Proportion:  when x varies in the opposite manner as y

Kinetic Energy:  energy possessed due to motion; 1/2 m v2

Pressure:  force per unit area

Temperature:  measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles

Volume:  amount of space occupied by matter
