My motivation for teaching:
Prior to teaching I worked in the business world for a major corporation. After several (unfulfilling) years, I quit and went back to college to be certified to teach in the elementary grades(5th or 6th). My motivation to teach was to instill in children an excitement for learning. Instead of teaching in the elemenatry grades I ended up teaching junior high school science which I have thoroughly enjoyed for the past fourteen years. My objective is for students to develop a passion for science and a curiousity about the world around them.

My favorite quote:
It is true that we make many mistakes. But the biggest of them all is to be surprised at them: as
if we had some hope of never making any. It is by making mistakes that we gain experience, not only for ourselves but others.

A personal humorous school story:
Two students in my gifted class wanted to design and launch a model rocket. I approved the project provided they complete all the stability and safety tests prior to launch. When we launched the rocket, it went up about 20 feet and then immediately began traveling horizontally about 2 feet above the ground. A PE class was playing softball about 50 yards from the launch site. The rocket went between the legs of the centerfielder (who had no warning) and ended up at home plate. My students yelled out "safe" which made even the notoriously strict PE teacher laugh.
