Recognizing the National Computational Science Leadership Program as a
powerful learning opportunity for teachers everywhere, a number of national
corporations stepped in and pledged generous support. Significant cash contributions were received from ACM/IEEE Computer Society, NASA, SC2000,
SC2001, and the Shodor Education Foundation, Inc. to sponsor the participation
of low wealth teams and underserved school systems. Cisco Systems, Inc.
partnered with SBC DataComm to provide wireless network cards and wireless
access points for teachers to use during the SC2000 and SC2001 Education Programs. Following the supercomputing conferences, teachers can take the wireless network cards back to their schools for use throughout the remainder of the program. Compaq Computer Corporation donated more than half of the laptop computers needed for participating teachers and computational science instructors. High Performance Systems provided copies of STELLA, a unique tool that focuses on helping students deepen and enrich their understanding of concepts and builds their capacity for generating understanding. Backing up its belief that giving teachers and students the resources they need enables them to accomplish great things, Microsoft Corporation donated MapPoint, Microsoft Office Premium, and Visio for teachers to use during the program. Program participants can also integrate into their curricula Mathematica, an easy-to-use technical computing package donated by
Wolfram Research, Inc. Through use of Mathematica software, students learn
to more easily calculate symbolic and numerical equations and are introduced to detailed 2D and 3D visualizations. Committed to enhancing math and science education and equipping teachers with the technology to effectively teach today's students, sponsor donations in support of the NCSLP total more than $2 million in grants and donations!
