This lesson is designed to promote awareness of alcohols affect on the body and the transmission of diseases. The students will examine a STELLA model of alcohol consumption, absorption into the blood and excretion from the body.
After examining the blood alcohol model, students will then build a STELLA model using a tutorial and handouts. This part of the module will include intense teacher guidance.
In the next part of the module, students will create a model of a disease that is running rampant in our school. During this activity the teacher will be available for limited guidance, but the emphasis will be on student construction of the model.
The last section of the module will focus primarily on student construction of STELLA models from a list of possible topics. The purpose of this activity will be for students to successfully implement their knowledge of modeling while working independently of the teacher.
