    What is this activity?

This activity is an authentic task which places the student in the position of riverkeeper.

Students will be given data sheets on specific sections of a river.Given normal conditions the student must analyze data, list and explain possible causes of any problems. Some parameters used include dissolved oxygen (DO), pH, salinity, phosphates, temperature, nitrates, and fecal coliform bacteria.

The student will also be introduced to computational modeling using the Stella model. The Stella model will concentrate on manipulating the two parameters DO and sewage load.
