    A Note to Teachers

When beginning this module the teacher should have already taught the processes of photosynthesis and respiration. The students should have a clear understanding of these processes and can understand what is included in the reactants and the products. The students should also know which organisms use these processes.

On the other hand, the students will not be given much information on the different factors or the parameters they affect. The students will do research on this part of the module.

Each student team will be given only 1 of the 5 data sheets.   Hopefully this will cut down on the amount of sharing done between groups.

When using the STELLA model, do not tell the students ahead of time to use only one slider at a time. Allow this to be part of their discovery. Hopefully they will remember about a controlled experiment.

Another experiment that could be done with this activity:

Take a field trip to a local river or other body of water. Have students take water samples and determine the dissolved oxygen in each sample using dissolved oxygen kits or probes.
