    NATIONAL SCIENCE STANDARDS ADDRESSED

     

    TEACHING STANDARDS:

     This lesson addresses the following teaching standards:

                      ·       The planning of inquiry-based science programs

    ·       The actions taken to guide and facilitate student learning

    ·       The assessments made of teaching and student learning

    ·       The development of environments that enable students to learn science

    ·       The creation of communities of science learners

    ·       The planning and development of the school science program

    PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT STANDARDS:

    •  This lesson addresses the following professional development standards:

    ·       The learning of science content through inquiry

    ·       The integration of knowledge about science with knowledge about learning, pedagogy, and students

    ·       The development of the understanding and ability for lifelong learning

    ·       The coherence and integration of professional development programs

     

    ASSESSMENT STANDARDS:

    This lesson addresses the following assessment standards:

    This lesson addresses the following content areas:

    ·       Science and technology

    ·       Science in personal and social perspectives

     

    NORTH CAROLINA STANDARD COURSE OF STUDY

     

    This lesson addresses the following standards for Biology:

    ·       Chemical processes and regulatory mechanisms of cells

    ·       Energy use and release in biochemical reactions

    ·       Analyze the bioenergetic reactions of respiration and photosynthesis

    ·       Assess and explain human activities that influence and modify the environment

    ·       Evaluate the survival of organisms and suitable adaptive responses to environmental pressures.

     

    This lesson addresses the following standards for Earth-Environmental Science:

    ·       Evaluate environmental issues and solutions for wetlands, inland, and tidal environments

    ·       Analyze the relationship between the potential of technology to improve the quality of life and the possible causes of stress on the environment

    ·       Analyze the interdependence of Earth’s natural resources and systems, including land, air, and water, with the need to support human activity and reduce environmental impacts

    ·       Access how society weighs the choices of economic progress, population growth and environmental stewardship and selects a balanced responsible course of action
