Run the SPB Infestation Model with Java!


The following Java model will calculate the total number of attacking female beetle after 25 weeks. 

You may adjust

  • The initial number of immigrant females entering the area

  • The percent, entered as a decimal, of the attacking population which reemerges (between 0 and 1)
  • The percent of beetle that survive between-trees
  • The number of female beetles produced per female beetle

The chart will produce values for

  • Week number
  • Immigrant beetles population
  • Reemerged beetles
  • Brood population
  • Total attacks per week
Data produced from this table can be graphed by clicking the button at the bottom of the screen.

 


Beetle Attack Calculator
The initial number of immigrant females entering the area:
Multiplier for the proportion of the attacking population which reemerges (0 < MR < 1):
The between-tree survival rate (0 < SR < 1):
The multiplier indicating the number of progeny females emerging per parent female in the attacking cohort (the brood increases ratio MB > 0):
The total number of beetle attacks after 25 weeks:
